MACANICALLY ELECTRIC: PORSCHE’S BOLD SHIFT

MACANICALLY ELECTRIC: PORSCHE’S BOLD SHIFT

11th of April, 2025

For years, Porsche has been synonymous with exhilarating performance, precision engineering, and a certain mechanical soul that resonates with enthusiasts. At GT Collective, we’ve spent countless hours working on and driving some of Stuttgart’s finest petrol-powered machines, from track-bred GT3s to the Luxury of the Cayenne. So, stepping into the all-new, all-electric 2025 Porsche Macan Electric 4 was both an exciting and curious moment.
Would it deliver that same Porsche DNA we’ve come to love, or would it feel like just another EV wrapped in a familiar badge?
With the winding coastal roads of Noosa as our testing ground, we set out to discover exactly that.

A SLEEK EVOLUTION
From the moment you lay eyes on the Macan Electric 4, it’s clear Porsche has taken an evolutionary rather than revolutionary approach to its styling. It remains unmistakably a Macan, yet with a sharper, more aerodynamic presence. The lack of a traditional front grille hints at its electric underpinnings, while the aggressive Matrix LED light signatures and sculpted bodywork give it a modern, purposeful stance. Inside, Porsche has elevated the cabin with a futuristic yet familiar cockpit. The 12.6-inch curved digital instrument cluster and 10.9-inch central display provide all the information you need in a crisp, high-definition layout.
The material quality remains top-notch, with a blend of sustainable and premium finishes. Even though we’re used to the mechanical engagement of Porsche’s traditional gear selector and analogue tachometer, this digital approach still exudes a sense of craftsmanship and intent.
One drawback was the haptic buttons and excessive use of piano black, which tends to leave fingerprints on touch points and really isn’t as intuitive to use as perhaps intended—something we see a lot of on current VAG products.

PERFECT FOR NOOSA LIVING
Porsche has equipped the Macan Electric 4 with a substantial 100kWh battery pack, offering a WLTP-rated range of up to 500km. Real-world driving around Noosa, including some spirited runs through the hinterland and relaxed cruising along Gympie Terrace, saw us achieving figures close to 450km—more than enough for daily use and weekend escapes. Charging is another strong suit. With 270kW DC fast charging capability, a 10-80% charge can be achieved in just over 20 minutes at a high-power station. Home charging overnight with an 11kW wallbox is a practical solution for most owners.

STILL A PORSCHE AT HEART
The Macan Electric 4 delivers the dynamic driving experience Porsche is known for. With dual electric motors generating 300kW and 650Nm of torque, it accelerates effortlessly, reaching 0-100km/h in 5.2 seconds. On the twisty roads of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, the Macan’s chassis balance shines.
The Performance Rear Axle, paired with air suspension and adaptive dampers, provides agility and stability despite its 2.3-tonne weight. The Macan feels planted with precise steering and excellent body control, making you forget it’s an SUV. The all-wheel-drive system ensures optimal grip, offering a rare level of engagement for an EV—still unmistakably Porsche, just in a different form.

VERDICT – EMBRACING THE FUTURE, PORSCHE STYLE
At GT Collective, we’ve built our name on precision, performance, and passion for petrol-powered machines. But as the automotive world shifts towards electrification, we embrace this change with an open mind. The Porsche Macan Electric 4 is not just a great EV—it’s a great Porsche. It retains the soul of the brand while embracing the future of performance motoring.

There are plenty of strong contenders in the European EV space, but Porsche has set the benchmark with the Macan Electric 4. If we were in the market for a premium electric SUV, this would be at the very top of our shortlist.

For Noosa locals, whether you’re cruising through town, tackling the hinterland roads, or heading down the highway for a weekend escape, the Macan Electric 4 proves that luxury, performance, and sustainability can coexist without compromise.
Porsche’s electric revolution is here, and if this is the future, we’re all for it.
